WHO ARE YOU?

Hair speaks volumes about who we are, reflecting our personality, identity, and individuality. From the days of traditional and structured styles to the current era of the Identity Generation, where individuality reigns supreme, Italian hair artist Tony Lofoco has seen it all.

In this issue, we explore the fascinating realm of hair trends in Italy and the powerful role hair styles play in our pursuit of self-identity and expression.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC HAIR TRENDS THAT ARE PARTICULARLY POPULAR AT THE MOMENT?

T.L: There is always something special in every time of the year, and currently, the latest trends are mainly focused on colors: super brunettes, such as dark chocolate and caramel. This trend is perfect for those who want to enhance their complexion or simply make their natural color more fascinating. For blondes, we will see pearly and icy shades, which have become popular after the great success of the Barbie movie.

HOW DO YOU SEE ITALIAN HAIR TRENDS DIFFERING FROM GLOBAL TRENDS?

T.L: In Italy, consumers are less adventurous and prefer bolder, more natural shades. However, red hair is particularly popular. Regardless of the base color, there is a range of shades to choose from based on one’s skin and eye colors. On the other hand, we receive updates from the global world on another more fun trend called bi-tonal, as seen on stars like Billie Eilish. The most popular combinations for brunettes are with green and blue, while blondes are paired with pink and peach tones.

ARE THERE ANY CLASSIC ITALIAN HAIR STYLES THAT HAVE BECOME TRENDY AGAIN?

T.L: The bob is back! The square bob, better known as the “carré,” is making a comeback. It’s leaving behind monotony and embracing side partings, XS bangs, wet effects, and flicked-up ends that sway in the wind.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ARE THE MAIN FACTORS INFLUENCING HAIR TRENDS IN ITALY?

T.L: Undoubtedly, street style plays a significant role, as everyone tries to express their own idea of fashion in their own way. Just by observing the looks showcased at Milan Fashion Week, we can be convinced that the entire world of fashion, including hair, comes from the streets.

WHICH NEW ITALIAN CELEBRITIES OR INFLUENCERS HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED HAIR TRENDS IN ITALY?

T.L: Maneskin is the latest fashion obsession, and I would consider them the biggest influencers of our time. Their unconventional aesthetic preserves a fantastical style that goes beyond what aesthetic prejudices may designate as rules. Good vibes also come from the world of individuals over 40, with Prof. Vincenzo Schettini as the new icon of our time. His success is linked to themes originating from the universe, and just think of a magnet, and he immediately comes to mind. His style is a demonstration that any man can be attractive and showcase their own unique style.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO CHANGE THEIR LOOK?

T.L: Always start with the questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? And if we find ourselves at odds with the mirror, let’s remember that to find peace, we simply need to nurture our identity. Sometimes, we make the mistake of thinking that there are no more choices. But there is always a choice, and hair, as a connecting element, can help restore a good mood and assist us in rediscovering self-confidence in a joyful manner.

Always start with the questions: who am I? Who do I want to be? And if we find ourselves at odds with the mirror , let’s remember that to find peace, we simply need to nurture our identity.
