One of the most famous in the province of Lecce is the one in Tricase: here, for over thirty years, one of the largest and most beautiful living nativity scenes in the whole of Salento has been organized with over 250 actors performing in about 4 hectares of Mediterranean scrub. In addition to the living nativity scenes organized in the neighboring villages, it is possible to admire a grand monumental nativity scene in Lecce, created every year inside the Roman Amphitheater in Piazza Sant’Oronzo, in the heart of the city. The characters of the nativity scene are life-sized, can be observed from above, and are made of papier-mâché, an ancient art typical of Salento.

The traditional Santa Lucia fair, held in Lecce at the Chiosco dei Teatini is an exhibition of ancient artisanal artifacts. One of the most widespread representations, in particular, is that of the “pupi,” entirely handmade by master artisans.
